ABC QUILT

This picture doesn't do this quilt justice because you can't see the whole alphabet in the picture, but it really is the best yet and quite fun to make.

ALL GROWN UP

It appears that Ann and Andy are all grown up now. They are both 20" tall although I have to admit to turning the pot so they would straighten up a bit.

Ann started opening up a few days ago. I know it is Ann because we all know that girls mature faster than boys.

VERY CUTE MOVIE

We saw DEFINITELY, MAYBE this afternoon and it is a very cute movie. Abigail Breslin who plays the daughter was very good and just as adorable as she was in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE. The movie was pretty predictable in a most places, but a cute date movie and good old fashioned entertainment.

DEMOCRACY IN ACTION

In all my years of voting (a lot and I don't want to do the math right now), I have never experienced a caucus until today. I had always gone to a polling place with my little ballot in California and since being in Washington, we have marked our ballot, put a stamp on the envelope and mailed it in. Our county has eliminated the polling place and everyone must vote by investing in a stamp.

Today was different. The only way our vote would count would be to go to the caucus. We watched the YouTube video so we had an idea of what to expect and we got in line with hundreds of our neighbors at 1 pm at the local junior high school. Parking was a challenge as was seating in the gymnasium. The "leader" had a bullhorn and read the scripted rules to us and then each precinct was separated. Our precinct went into a classroom as we were one of the larger groups. People were allowed to stand and speak for their candidate and everyone was very passionate and articulate. It was interesting that only women spoke for Hillary, with the exception of one gay guy.

Our precinct ended up with 5 delegates for Obama and 3 delegates for Clinton. The process of hearing other opinions and seeing the enthusiasm for the process by our neighbors gives me more interest in the election than I might have otherwise. Bottom line is to unify and elect a democrat in November.

IN TIME FOR VALENTINE'S DAY

This one is white, but the hearts are good for Valentine's Day. What do babies care anyway?

FOUR THUMBS UP

We saw the movie 'Juno' today and loved it, both giving it two thumbs up. It was so well done, yet not big budget. No actual sex, no swearing. Real life portrayals. Loved it.

DIDN'T MEET PHILIP

My day went according to my plan, with very few changes. I took the 9 am ferry, did blood work, and saw the doctor after getting a complete exam from the new nurse practitioner and saying good-bye to Eileen who is leaving for a new job. Then I called Target in Silverdale to see if they had my medications so I wouldn't have to wait at the incredibly slow pharmacy at UW and they did, so off I went to meet Steven for lunch at Zeek's. We had a fabulous pizza lunch and he went back to work and I drove back home with a quick stop at Target to get my Rx. I didn't make it up to University Village, but that is okay, maybe next time.

And I didn't get to meet Philip, but I will say that at least he followed through and made the appointment with the doctor and radiology on the correct day in February so I'm cutting him a little slack.

HOW DO IDIOTS GET HIRED AND I CAN'T GET PAST AN INTERVIEW?

I am scheduled to go to UW this Thursday to see my doctor. I've had the appointment for over a month and it's even verified on the official UW letterhead that came in the mail. It's all planned out....take the 9 am ferry, get blood work, see the doctor at 10:30, take my Rx to the pharmacy, go to University Village while the pharmacy takes an hour to fill the Rx, pick up my Rx and drive into Seattle to have lunch with my son.

So what's the problem? An idiot has intervened to try and derail my plan.

Tuesday afternoon I get a call from a woman at UW Radiology reminding me of my 7:30 am appointment on Thursday for an MRI. I politely said, "HUH?" She repeated her information, adding the MRI would be at 8 am, but I needed to check in at 7:30 am. I told her that this was the first I was hearing of this appointment and she said I would have to talk to Philip about that, she was just calling to remind me of the time. She was kind enough to transfer me to Philip's number.

Of course I got his voice mail. He phoned back about an hour later and basically gave me the same information. I explained the impossible logistics of what they had created for me. I would have to take a 5 am ferry for a 7:30 appointment and then when the MRI is done (20 minutes) I would sit around for over 2 hours waiting for my appointment with the doctor. I didn't even mention the fact that at my last visit I waited in the lobby for an hour past my appointment time for the doctor.

Now at this point I'm thinking that the doctor has told him to schedule the MRI. I told him that the last time I saw the doctor he said I would have an MRI in February. So I asked him why was I having the MRI now? His answer was so vague I can't even remember it. We went back and forth and then I suggested that perhaps he could check with radiology for a time closer to my appointment time. It is only in retrospect that I realize that he had just made the appointment. That is why the woman from radiology called me rather than the automated voice reminder.

But wait, it gets better with Philip. Now I am thinking he is checking with Radiology to get a better time, but he knows he can't do that because he just made the appointment. So he went to Jennifer, one of the nurses and asked her about my waiting to have the MRI.
He calls me back and tells me that he checked with Jennifer and that I don't have to come in this Thursday at all, even to see the doctor. Let's set up an appointment for the first week in February for the MRI and to see the doctor. "Are you available on Wednesday, February 6th?" he says, "around 3 pm." By now I'm really seeing red. I know I can be a little anal retentive (just a little), but I always see the doctor on Thursday and I'm thinking that I may be working by then and 3 pm, ARE YOU CRAZY?

Time out Philip. First of all, why are you canceling my appointment for this Thursday? I am supposed to start taking my meds this week, or haven't I already told you that two or three times? Secondly, why is it such a big deal to have the MRI this Thursday if suddenly we can wait three weeks? And thirdly, I would normally be scheduled for the MRI on February 21st if you had just stayed in a corner picking your nose and not gotten into my business, you idiot.

I realized that this whole scheduling nightmare was caused by Philip reading or mis-reading the doctor's notes in my file, which leads me to question how such an idiot can get a job and I can't get past the interview? Of course we don't know that he will KEEP the job, now do we!

FRIDAY MOVIE

Went to movies on Friday afternoon with my daughter...sort of a family New Year's resolution of trying to get out and do more things. We saw "P.S. I Love You" with Hilary Swank and Gerald Butler. Somehow I had the idea there was some comedy involved with this movie even knowing that Hilary Swank's husband dies. After all, the TV trailer shows Lisa Kudrow going up to men at a bar and asking if they are single? gay? working? Well, let's just say, there was little comedy involved, BUT an okay movie. I didn't feel it was Hilary Swank's best work and a very different role for her. It would be a good rental, but we both enjoyed it along with the other five people in the theater.
